Energy, mining firms donate money to tsunami victims

In response to the calls from the government and aid agencies, several big companies like PT Medco Energy, Newmont Mining Corporation and PT Caltex Pacific Indonesia have donated large sums to the relief efforts in Aceh and North Sumatra, where tsunamis struck and killed more than 27,000 people, newspapers reported on Wednesday.
The publicly-listed oil and gas company Medco announced in a statement that it would donate Ro 10 billion to the quake and tsunami victims.
The U.S.-run Newmont said in a statement on Tuesday that it would donate Rp 5 billion to the relief effort.
Chevron Texaco through PT Caltex Pacific Indonesia donated on Tuesday an amount of US$100,000 to tsunami victims.(*)
