Energy, mining firms obtain Proper gold award

A total of 12 companies, mostly comprising of energy and mining firms, obtained this year?s gold-rating environmental award, known as Proper Award for their performance in complying with environmental regulations and green innovation. The award was handed over by Vice President Jusuf Kalla in a ceremony on Wednesday.

The 12 companies include PHE West Madura Offshore (PHE WMO), JOB Pertamina Talisman Jambi Merang, PT Jawa Power, PT Pertamina EP Asset 3 Field Rantau, PT Badak NGL, PT Medco E&P Indonesia Rimau Asset, PT Pertamina Geothermal Energy Area Kamojang, PT Bukit Asam (Persero) Tbk Tanjung Enim Unit, PT Bio Farma, PT Pertamina (Persero) Marketing Operation Region IV TBBM Rewulu, Star Energy Geothermal (Wayang Windu) Ltd, and PT Pertamina (Persero) Balongan Refinery Unit.

The Proper Award is an environmental performance rating program of the Ministry of Forestry and Environment. The ministry has five classifications; gold, green, blue, red and black. Gold is the highest ranking and is awarded to companies that can maintain good waste-disposal practices for a minimum of three consecutive years.

Red is given to companies that do not follow environmental standards, while black is for companies that damage the environment, either deliberately or unintentionally.

This year, the ministry surveyed 1,930 companies from 111 different industries.
