Energy minister inaugurates Kamojang project

Energy and Mineral Resources Minister Jero Wacik will inaugurate on Saturday the start of the development of fifth unit of PLTP Kamojang geothermal power plant in Garut regency, West Java.

PLTP Kemojang Unit 5 which is operated by PT Pertamina Geothermal Energy is scheduled to begin commercial operation in late 2014, with a capacity of 1 x 30 megawatt (MW). The power plant is located adjacent to PLTP Kamojang Unit 4, about 42 km southeast of Bandung.

At present there are four generator units at PLTP Kamojang geothermal complex, including PLTP Unit 1, with a capacity of 30 MW, PLTP Unit 2 and 3, each with a capacity of 55 MW and PLTP Unit 4 with a capacity of 60 MW.

The government has also planned to build PLTP Kamojang Unit 6 as part of the second fast track development of 10,000MW.

During the visit, the minister will also inaugurate the operation of 11 artesian wells to provide clean water supply in 10 districts in the Garut regency. The inauguration was held at one of the artesian well in Sukamerang village.

According to the Energy and Mineral Resources Ministry, the 11 artesian wells, which have combined capacity of 106,200 liters per hour are able to provide clean water for about 29,500 people. The wells were drilled between 2005 and 2012.
