Energy minister reshuffles senior officials across ESDM Ministry

Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources, Bahlil Lahadalia, on Wednesday inaugurated a broad reshuffle of senior officials within the Energy and Mineral Resources Ministry (ESDM), appointing 19 high-ranking leaders across key directorates and agencies.

The inauguration ceremony took place at the Chairul Saleh building at the ministry’s Secretariat General office in Jakarta, according to an official statement issued on May 6.

The reshuffle spans strategic positions across oil and gas, minerals and coal, renewable energy, geology, and human resources development, reflecting efforts to strengthen institutional capacity and support policy implementation in Indonesia’s energy sector.

Several key appointments were made within the Directorate General (DG) of Minerals and Coal, including Totoh Abdul Fatah as secretary of the directorate general, Asep Kurnia Permana as director of coal business development, and Hendra Iswahyudi as director of mineral and coal revenue.

In the oil and gas sector, Joko Hadi Wibowo was appointed director of engineering and environment. Meanwhile, changes in the renewable energy directorate saw Priatin Hadi Wijaya named director of geothermal, Noor Arifin Muhammad as director of bioenergy, Gigih Udi Atmo as director of energy conservation, and Tony Susandy as director of renewable energy.

The reshuffle also covered geological and human resources institutions, as well as oversight and enforcement roles, including appointments within the Geological Agency, the Human Resources Development Agency, the Inspectorate General, and the upstream oil and gas regulator SKK Migas.

The ministry did not disclose further details on the rationale behind the reshuffle, though such rotations are typically aimed at improving organizational effectiveness and advancing sectoral priorities.
