Eni announces successful appraisal of Jangkrik gas discovery

Italian oil, gas firm Eni SpA announced Wednesday that it has successfully appraised the gas reserve discovered at the Jangkrik-2 well in Muara Bakau PSC, Kutai basin, offshore East Kalimantan.

The Jangkrik-2 appraisal well has been drilled 2449 meters in a water depth of 425 meters The well encountered more than 80 meters of net gas pay in excellent quality reservoir sands of Pliocene age, the company said in statement.

The result significantly increases the field's estimated recoverable resources, it said.

During production test, the Jangkrik-2 well produced high quality gas at a tubing constrained rate of 17.5 MMscfd.

Eni, through its Indonesian subsidiary, is the operator of Muara Bakau PSC with a 55 percent interest, with GDF Suez holding the remaining 45 percent.

Following this successful result, the joint venture plans to proceed quickly with an assessment of technical and commercial viability of a fast-track development of the Jangkrik gas. The gas will be routed to the Bontang LNG plant. (Denny)
