Eni makes a new discovery off E Kalimantan

Italian oil, gas firm Eni SpA has discovered hydrocarbon deposit at its Jangkrik exploration well in the Muara Bakau PSC, Kutei basin, offshore East Kalimantan.

The discovery, made after the well was drilled 400 meters water depth, was a significant success and further confirms the high potentials of its portfolio in the area, the company said in statement on Monday

Eni plans to proceed with the appraisal of the Jangkrik discovery and to assess the technical and commercial viability of a fast-track development of the new field.

Eni is the operator of the block with a 50 percent participating interest with the remaining held by America's Anadarko.

In the Kutei Basin area, Eni also participates in the development of the significant gas reserves in the Rapak & Ganal blocks. In the nearby Tarakan Basin area, Eni has made in recent years two other important hydrocarbon discoveries, Aster and Tulip, both of which are now in an advanced appraisal phase.

In Indonesia, Eni holds working interests in a total of 11 permits and operates six of them. The offshore activities are located in the deep waters of the Tarakan and Kutei Basins and northern Sumatra. Other activities are in the Mahakam River Delta, East Kalimantan, where Eni has an equity production of approximately 20.000 barrels of oil equivalent a day (boed). (denny)
