Italian firm Eni SPA plans to speed up production at the Merakes-1 well in East Sepinggan block, East Kalimantan, where the firm has recently found a significant gas reserve.
The firm has submitted a Put on Production (PoP) plan for the well to upstream authority SKK Migas and the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources, according to a source.
It is possible to speed up the production of the well due to the fact that it is situated close ? around 30 km away ? to the Jangkrik field in Muara Bakau block, which is controlled by the firm and where EPC works are now in progress.
The firm may make use of the facilities now being constructed at Jangkrik to process gas from Jangkrik as well as Merakes, the source said.
In the fourth quarter of last year, the Italian firm announced the discovery of 1.3 tcf of gas Merakes-1, the first well to be drilled by the firm in the East Sepinggan block. On March 17, 2015, after completing post-drilling studies, the firm announced the the size of the gas reserve had been upgraded to 2 tcf of gas in place.
The firm holds a 85 percent interest in the block while state owned oil and gas firm holds the rest.
