Environmental watchdog expects environmental reports from IMK

Central Kalimantan's environmental impact management body (Bapedalda) said it had not yet received the latest reports from gold mining company PT Indo Muro Kencana on the implementation of its environmental protection program, Kapos daily reported.

Head of the province's mines and energy office Abdul Fatah Yoesoef said the documents held by his office on the company's environmental program was the Analysis Concerning Environmental Impact (Amdal) document of 1993 and the Environmental Management Plan (RKL) and Environmental Monitoring Plan (RPL) of 1998.

Abdul said the company was obliged to monitor its tailings on daily, weekly and monthly basis but thus far his office had not yet reports on the monitoring activities.

The local non-governmental organizations has charged the company with polluting the environment around its gold mine and the local council has also raised questions about the issue during a hearing with Bapedalda, the paper reported. (*)
