EOR contributes 40% of national oil production

Oil production activities using enhanced oil recovery (EOR) technology has been able to contribute 333,000 barrels of oil per day or about 40 percent of the country?s total output in 2011, upstream authority BPMIGAS said.
?Up to the end of 2011, EOR operations using both water flood and steam flood have helped produce 333,000 bopd or about 40 percent of the national production,? R. Priyono, Chairman of BPMIGAS said during a hearing with the Commission VII of the House of Representatives (DPR) on Wednesday.
He said the application of EOR technology in oil fields operated by PT Chevron Pacific Indonesia (CPI) helped the contractor to produce 280,000 bopd.
Indonesia?s production reached its peak level of above 1.6 million bopd in 1977 and in 1995. In 1977, the total production of 1.65 million bopd were mostly from primary recovery oil production operations.
In 1995, the production which showed significant decline since its peak in 1977, recovered again and reached 1.6 million thanks to the use of the EOR technology at Chevron?s oil fields.
Data from BPMIGAS shows that apart from CPI, other production sharing contractors (PSCs) that have also applied EOR technology are Medco EP, BOB PT Bumi Siak Pusako, CNOOC and Chevron, Pertamina E&P and Chevron. Pertamina EP applied the EOR technology at a number of fields such as Rantau, Tanjung and Limau.
Medco applied the EOR technology using water flood at its Kaji-Semoga field, while Chevron applied the technology at some of its fields such as Banko, Bekasap and Minas.
