PT Pertamina Hulu Energi plans to adopt the enhanced oil recovery (EOR) technology in two fields in its ONWJ block next year.

?We plan to carry out the EOR program in Zulu and Bravo fields. The challenge in conducting the EOR program in offshore fields is the supporting facility,? PHE-ONWJ President Director Tenny Wibowo told petromindo.com on Monday.

The other big challenge is the reservoir issue, which is currently being evaluated, he said, adding that the company expects the program to be put in practice next year.

Separately, Director of Oil and Gas at the Energy and Mineral Resources Ministry Evita H. Legowo said EOR is one of key strategies many operators are embarking on to help curb the natural production decline. She said the production decline is around 3 percent a year.

"Let us all try to reach the production of 1 million barrels of oil per day. One of ways to do that is through the EOR program. Several companies have started it. Chevron has carried out the surfactant injection scheme. Pertamina is also doing the EOR,? Evita said during a seminar on EOR in Jakarta on Monday.

Evita also encourages companies to cooperate with the government and universities in adopting the EOR program.
