Canadian oil and gas producer Equatorial Energy Inc. reported on Thursday that during the first quarter of this year, its Indonesian operations produced 6,165 barrels of oil per day (BOPD), 28 percent higher that previous year?s quarter production of 4,806 BOPD.

The company attributed the production to the successful Indonesian drilling program.

During the quarter, the company said it drilled two oil wells at Sembakung Block, including the first of a four- well program designed to extend the field to the south. The two wells drilled from Pad #6 had been cased and completion would begin in the month of May. The drill rig is moving to Pad #5 where the first well of a 2 well program will test a large seismically defined structure, said the company.

At Tanjung Lontar an 11 well program is scheduled to start in late May, said the company.

Equatorial has an 80 percent interest in the Sembakung technical assistance contract (TAC) oil field in northeast Kalimantan, Tanjung Lontar TAC and Kruh TAC in the southern part of Sumatra. (alex)
