ESCAP recommends use of clean energy

Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Purnomo Yusgiantoro said the Economic and Social Commission for Asia Pacific conference in Bali, which ended Friday, had recommended a wider use of clean energy.

Purnomo said the organization would submit the recommendation to the Commission for Sustainable Development next April in New York.

He said by hosting the conference, Indonesia had shown to the world that it was concerned with environment.

"Indonesia wanted to show to the world that it was concerned with environment. Indonesia would seek to develop clean energy," Purnomo told Petromindo. Com early Saturday morning on his arrival at the Soekarno-Hatta international airport from Bali.

The ESCAP conference took place from Thursday to Friday, preceded by a two day preparatory meeting of senior officials.

Prior to the conference, the organizers said representatives of 52 member countries of ESCAP and 14 international organizations were invited to the conference. (Godang)
