Estimation of PLN?s coal consumption in 2014-15

State owned electricity company PT Perusahaan Listrik Negara (PLN), estimates its coal consumption to increase in 2014 and 2015.

?Total coal consumption of PLN and that of the Independent Power Producer (IPP)?s power plants will reach 76.6 and 82.6 million tons in 2014 and 2015 respectively,? said Helmi Najamuddin during a presentation at the CoalTrans coal conference in Bali Tuesday.

Helmi explained that from those numbers, about 76.6 million tons will be consumed in 2014 where 35 million tons will be coal with calorific of value between 4501-5500 KCal/Kg, while 33.8 million tons will be coal that has calorific value between 4000-4500 Kcal/Kg, and the rest will be coal with calorific value of over 5500 Kcal/Kg.

For the following year, 38.9 million tons will be coal of 4501-5500 Kcal/Kg, 35.9 million tons coal of 4501-5500 Kcal/Kg and 7.8 million tons coal calorific value over 5500 Kcal/Kg.

Recently PLN announced that it will open again coal tender to supply its power plants across the country.
