The evaluation team formed by the office of the Coordinating Minister for Economy, Finance and Industry to assess the operation of gold and copper mining giant PT Freeport Indonesia has completed its job, according to a source at the Ministry of Mines and Energy.
The evening Suara Pembaruan daily quoted the source as saying that the team has issued six recommendations including for the government to reevaluate the production level of Freeport, and to demand the company to make divestment.
Director general of mines Surna T. Djajadiningrat declined to make confirmation. But he admitted that the team had completed its job and has submitted its report to the office of the Coordinating Minister.
He said that the office of the Coordinating Minister for Economy, Finance and Industry would still have to study the report, and it was still unclear whether they would fully adopt all of the six recommendations issued by the team.(*)
