Hong Kong-based energy firm Energy World Corporation Limited (EWC) said one unit of its Sengkang 2x60MW combined cycle power plant expansion in South Sulawesi would start commercial operations in June 2011 with another unit to follow in June 2012.

The company reported in its Annual Report 2010 released on Friday that the 2x60MW units are part of its agreement with state electricity firm PT PLN (Persero) to expand the current capacity of 195MW to 315MW.

The company said project debt financing for the project should be concluded within 2010.

The project involves the construction of a combined cycle power plant comprising one 60MW Siemens gas turbine and generator unit, one heat recovery steam generating unit and one 60MW steam turbine and generator unit and associated plant and infrastructure.

The new capacity addition will require the gas supply to Sengkang power plant to increase to 54MMCFD, the company said.

EWC has 95 percent stake in Sengkang power plant through its unit PT Energi Sengkang. Gas to fuel the plant is supplied from nearby Sengkang PSC, in which the company has 100 percent interest. (alex)
