ASX-listed energy firm Energy World Corporation Limited (EWC) announced Tuesday that it had received approval from the Government of the Republic of Indonesia for the development of an additional 60 MW capacity gas turbine generator unit and 60 MW capacity steam turbine generator unit.

The additional gas turbine generator unit will be the same model Siemens SGT5-1000F gas turbine as for the additional unit currently under construction and is scheduled for completion and commercial operation in June 2009. The water steam cycle will comprise two heat recovery steam generation units to utilize the waste heat from the two Siemens SGT5-I000F gas turbines and a 60 MW steam turbine generator unit scheduled for completion in April 2010, it said.

The additional gas turbine generator will use an additional 15-17 MMCFD of natural gas to be produced and supplied from the developed Kampung Baru gas fields in the Sengkang Production Sharing Contract area, which is operated by the EWC subsidiary Energy Equity Epic (Sengkang) Pty Ltd.

?Negotiation of the amendments to the long term power purchase agreement (PPA) to incorporate the further expansion of the Sengkang Power Plant will commence immediately with PT PLN (Persero) the Indonesian State owned electricity corporation which is the Government appointed Electricity Authority and the electricity off-taker under the PPA,? the company said.

The expected capital cost for this power plant expansion is US$110 million. The company will commence discussions with its existing Sengkang project finance banks with the view to increasing the project debt facility to accommodate this expansion which we envisage will be project debt financed.?

The new combined cycle plant efficiency will be more than 50% and the gas turbine units will have lower emissions levels than the existing plant. The new combined cycle plant may be eligible for clean development mechanism credits which would further improve the commercial value of the power plant, the company said.

Currently EWC operates 135-MW power plant in Sengkang, with another 60-MW is scheduled to start commercial operation on 28 September 2008. (denny)
