Australian firm Energy World Corporation (EWC) announced on Monday it had commenced expansion work of its Sengkang gas-fired power plant in South Sulawesi with the start of construction works for a 65-MW (60MW nett) turbine generator to be installed at its plant site.
The turbine will be supplied by Siemens of Germany, said the company, and all commercial agreements in connection with equipment supply contract had been finalized. The new unit is expected to become fully operational in September 2008.
Electrical output from Sengkang would be increased from 135MW to 195MW under long-term Power Purchase Agreement with state electricity firm PLN, said the company.
Gas supply for the plant would be supplied from nearby Sengkang gas field, also operated by EWC.
EWC also said that it was currently in talks with PLN to further build another 60MW plant in the complex and is expected to become operational in the first quarter of 2009.
