EWP gets 35% stake in S. Kalimantan IPP power plant project

Korean utility firm Korea East-West Power Co Ltd (EWP) will secure 35 percent of stake in the independent power producer (IPP) tender of 2x100 MW South Kalimantan coal-fired power plant, a company official said on Wednesday.

EWP?s GM for Indonesia Jin-Yoon Hwang said the remaining 65 percent of the project would be held by its Indonesian partner PT Adaro Energy Tbk.

?Request of Proposal (RFP) will be submitted to PLN in this month. It takes 3 months to complete of RFP process,? he said.

The consortium of Adaro and EWP will compete with other four bidders, he said without naming the bidders? name.

The tender winner is expected to start construction in Q1 2012 with completion of the project in three years. The power plant will need around 1 million tonnes of coal a year with calorific value of 4,200 kcal/kg to generate electricity, Hwang said. (giok)
