Expatriate workers in oil and gas sector to increase next year

State oil and gas company Pertamina said on Thursday the number of expatriates workers in the country's oil and gas sector rose to 932 this year from 914 last year.
The rise in the number of expatriate workers was attributed to the development of the Life Oil Steam Flood (LOSF) project in Minas, Riau owned by American oil and gas company PT Caltex Pacific Indonesia, the Tangguh liquefied natural gas (LNG) project in Wiriagar Bay, Irian Jaya owned by Beyond Petroleum (BP), the West Seno deepwater field in the Makassar Straits owned by American oil and gas company Unocal Indonesia Company and the West Natuna gas project owned by the consortium of American oil and gas company Conoco Inc., Canadian firm Gulf Indonesia Resources and British firm Premier Oil, head of Pertamina's foreign contractors management body (BPPKA) Heru Tjokro said in the yearend press conference Thursday evening.
The total number of workers in the country's oil and gas companies reached 22,553 this year, up from 21,932 last year, he said. (Alex/Godang/Epin)
