Exploration at South Sembakung field will begin next year

The joint operation body of Pertamina and Medco (JOB Pertamina-Medco) said that it would start exploration activities at the South Sembakung II gas field in Nunukan regency, East Kalimantan in the second semester of next year, Kaltim Post reported on Saturday.

Speaking during a presentation with the senior officials of the Nunukan administration on Friday, the general manager of the JOB-Pertamina-Medo, Sukowinto said that the exploration of the South Sembakung II would be the continuation of the exploration of the South Sembakung I gas field carried out by Arco in early 1970s.

He said that the exploration of the South Sembakung II, which is estimated to have gas reserves of at least 205 billion cubic feet, would involve professional workers and contractors.

According to him, Medco has secured a commitment from state electricity company to buy the gas to be produced from the field. (*)
