Explosive producer Dahana enters mining sector

State owned explosive producer PT Dahana has advised mining companies and oil producers to use its service for mining operation, saying that its technology guarantees less damage to the environment, Bisnis Indonesia daily reported Monday.

Dahana president director F. Harry Sampurno said recently that the Bandung-based company had entered the excavation service three years ago. Several mining firms in East Kalimantan had used its service, Harry added.

Harry said further that Dahana could not survive financially if it continued to depend on selling explosives only.

In 2002, the company?s income reached Rp400 billion (US$=Rp8,910) of which 30 percent was derived from its mining service. (*)
