Oil producer PT Exspan Nusantara, a subsidiary of PT Medco Energi International, has been accused of polluting a river in South Sumatra, local daily Sumatra Ekspres daily reported on Monday.
People in Teluk and Petaling villages in Lais Muba district, where River Batang Hari Leko flows through, said pollution caused by Exspan?s oil mining activities had killed many fish in the river.
Last Friday, village heads from Lais Muba met with Muba regency council members to air their grievances related to the river pollution.
Council members told the village heads that they would send a special team to inspect on the allegedly polluted River Batang Hari Leko. (*)
