PT Exspan Petrogas Intranusa, a subsidiary of Medco Energy, in cooperation with PT Gemala Sarana Upaya, has successfully produced a wireline logging truck, equipment that enables to detect oil reserves at the depth of up to 2,000 feet under the ground.

John S. Karamoy, the president of PT Medco Energy Company, said in Jakarta on Friday that Exspan Petrogas was the first local company which had succeeded to develop such an equipment.

?With the success, Medco will be able to save millions of dollars in the procurement of the wireline logging truck,? he said at the launching of the locally made equipment.

According to Karamoy, the wireline logging truck is able to screen data about oil and gas reserves at the depth of up to 2,000 feet under the earth. The data collected by the equipment is studied again to ensure the level of the reserves.

He said that the wireline logging truck was manufactured at a total cost of between US$1 million to $2 million. The price of the imported equipment could reach $2.5 million. ?By producing our own equipment, we can save at least $500,000 per unit,? he said.

At present, Medco has six wireline logging trucks, all of which were imported from the United States. (*)
