Oil and gas firm PT Exspan will build a new special oil quay on the Rimau Island in Muba Regency, South Sumatra, which will distribute oil from the Kaji field to the floating storage in Arjuna Muntok, Bangka Province.

The local Palembang Post daily said that the plan was revealed during a recent meeting between Exspan and the provincial administration.

Exspan vice president for technical planning Nahir Basuki said that the initial capacity of the dock was 10,000 barrel per day.

He said that the company would recruit around 20 local workers to operate the quay.

Exspan's contribution to the South Sumatra administration last year was US$472.3 million, compared to $195.4 million in 1999.

Nahir said that in 2001, the company's cash contribution was expected to decline to $417 million amid lower oil price.(*)
