Exspan to reopen old wells in Tarakan

Oil and gas producer PT Exspan Nusantara plans to reopen old oil wells in East Kalimantan's Tarakan area, the Kaltim Post daily reported Saturday.
Exspan area manager Andi Lolo said that the company had notified the local administration about the plan.
Exspan currently controls 43 wells in the area, of which 30 are considered old wells.
The paper also said that the company was cooperatin with the Tarakan city administration to fence in 12 old wells at the city's port to ensure the safety of workers doing constrution work at the port.
One well had been caught by fire recently causing six men to suffer serious injuries.
Exspan is the unit of publicly listed PT Medco Energy International.(*)
