Exxon fails to make discovery in Mandar drilling

US oil and gas firm Exxon Mobil Corp. failed to discover hydrocarbon of economic volume at Sultan-1 wildcat exploration well in in Mandar PSC in Makassar Straits, an official with upstream oil, gas authority BPMIGAS said on Tuesday.
Deputy Chairman Achmad Luthfi said the well flowed small volume of uneconomic gas.
Earlier, Exxon had drilled dry hole at Rangkong well in Surumana PSC which is adjacent to Mandar PSC.
Exxon has 80 percent interest in both blocks with Malaysian firm Petronas holding the balance. (bernard)
