Exxon Mobil secures drilling rig for deepwater block

US oil, gas giant Exxon Mobil said on Wednesday that it has secured rig for the drilling of its Surumana deepwater in Makassar Strait.

 

The company will commence drilling of the three wells in the block starting mid-2008, earlier than original schedule of 2009, Maman Budiman, ExxonMobil Oil Indonesia External Relation VP told Petromindo.Com.  He did not reveal the name of the rig.

 

Maman said that the company will under take 2D seismic on the block late this month. “The vessel is currently moving to Surumana and seismic will be completed in two months,” he said.

 

ExxonMobil was awarded Surumana block in September 2006. (godang)
