Nearly 1,000 workers of the North Aceh-based gas operator PT Exxon Mobil agreed on Friday to end their strike after the company promised to meet their demand, Analisa reported on Saturday.

Under the agreement signed by the workers representatives, the legal advisor of the gas operator and CV Uniba, the contractor, the workers would receive overtime payment if they work longer than that stated in the contracts, and also promised to improve their welfare.

The workers' demand to increase their salaries by 50 percent and to improve transport allowance and other facilities would be discussed further by the management. Under the five-point agreement, the workers also agreed to end their protests until a further negotiation on the demand to increase their salaries were completed.

The temporary workers, who began their strike on Wednesday, had demanded the company to increase their salaries by 50 percent, pay overtime works and provide transport allowance and health facilities. The workers also asked the management to give them a similar treatment as that given to regular workers. (*)
