ExxonMobil is preparing the Cendana field within the Cepu oil and gas block in Central Java as a place to store CO2, which will then be injected into the ground, in a bid to help protect the environment.
The move forms part of ExxonMobil?s plan to produce gas from the Tiung Biru, Jambaran and Cendana fields.
?Cendana is wider, that?s why it will become the storage for CO2. We must secure this (CO2) to help protect the environment,? Senior Vice President for Exploration and External Relations at ExxonMobil Indonesia, Asep Sulaiman, told Petromindo.com Tuesday.
He said that the CO2 will be stored into Cendana once production at Jambaran and Tiung Biru begins. ?That?s why production will be started at Cendana first to empty the reservoir,? Asep said.
