ExxonMobil clarifies on its expenditures in Cepu contract area: Press statement

Saturday, September 17 2005 - 02:50 AM WIB

Currently ExxonMobil is working with Pertamina and the government of Indonesia to complete the definitive agreements based on the June 2005 MOU. It is generally not ExxonMobil's policy to respond to public inquiries related to confidential business discussions. However, in this case, a few clarifying comments are appropriate.

ExxonMobil strongly denies allegations that the company is marking up its operating costs in the Cepu Contract Area. ExxonMobil subsidiaries in Indonesia have spent in excess of $450 million in acquiring, exploring and planning for the development of resources covered by the Cepu TAC. All of our expenditures to date are supported by legitimate documentation and are subject to audit. A substantial portion has already been validated through the normal Indonesian audit process conducted under oil and gas cooperation contracts. The remaining costs will be subject to similar review. It is our expectation that additional costs submitted for cost recovery will be validated through the normal process.
