ExxonMobil confirms Aceh explosion; output plan unchanged

Wednesday, December 12 2001 - 03:13 PM WIB

A minor explosion on Wednesday at ExxonMobil Oil Indonesia Inc.'s facilities in Aceh, caused no damage or injuries, and won't affect ExxonMobil Corp.'s production plans, Dow Jones Newswires quoted a company spokesman as saying.

Natural gas production from ExxonMobil's fields in Aceh is "close to" last year's average production of 1.6 billion cubic feet per day, and will surpass that level once the South Lhoksukon and Pase fields return to normal operations, he said.

A small bomb that exploded caused no injuries or damage, he said, and isn't expected to affect operations.

ExxonMobil suspended operations at its onshore gas fields in Aceh in March, citing explosions and attacks on its facilities. It resumed gas production in August. (*)
