Three contract workers of ExxonMobil Indonesia have been kidnapped by a group of armed men in Aceh, according to spokesman of the state-owned oil and gas firm Pertamina Sidick Nitikusuma.

An earlier report said that seven workers were considered missing on Wednesday after they failed to return from the A8 gas field in the deep jungle of East Aceh to the base camp in Cluster A, South Lhoksukon.

Sidick said that the three missing workers, recruited by PT Uniba, included a foreman, a driver, and a security official.

He could not provide further details.

ExxonMobil spokeswoman Julia Tumengkol declined to give much comment, but confirmed that three contract workers had not returned to the base camp since Wednesday. (Godang)
