ExxonMobil in Aceh denies dismissal reports

ExxonMobil Oil Indonesia has denied press reports that the company had dismissed 149 of its workers in its massive gas fields in Lhokseumawe, North Aceh, the local newspaper Serambi Indonesia daily reported on Monday.

"There is no dismissal or layoff. The truth is that ExxonMobil has terminated its contract with PT Indobuana Transport," he was quoted as saying.

Indobuana Transport which supplies about 149 workers mostly drivers was forced to lay off its entire workers after ExxonMobil cut its contract.

But the chairman of the Commission E of the North Aceh Legislative Council, Amron Hamdi, said that ExxonMobil should be responsible for the layoff of the workers. He urged the local employment office to investigate the case. (*)
