Bojonegoro Regent H. Atlan criticized ExxonMobil Oil Inc. for poor dissemination of information to the public about its oil operation in the Banyu Urip area in the regency, the local Surabaya Post daily said Tuesday.
Atlan urged ExxonMobil to provide the public with sufficient information about its activities in the area including land acquisition and labor recruitment policy as these were sensitive issues that could be easily twisted by provocateurs to trigger unrest in the area.
Speaking at a presentation of ExxonMobil environmental impact assessment report, he expected the oil company to recruit more local people.
?We don?t expect Exxon to come to us only when it faces trouble,? he said.
ExxonMobil is exploring oil in a 10,000 ha area located in the Bojonegoro and Tuban regencies in East Java, with expected daily crude production 160,000 barrel starting 2002. (*)
