ExxonMobil farms out deepwater blocks

US oil giant Exxon Mobil Corp. has farmed out interest in two deep-water exploration blocks in Makassar Straits to Malaysian oil, gas firm Petronas, an official with upstream oil, gas authority BPMIGAS said.
Deputy Chairman Achmad Luthfi told Petromindo.Com on Monday that Petronas assumed 20 percent stake at Surumana and Mandar Blocks.
Petronas said in a quarterly report released last week that the blocks was acquired in the first quarter of this year.
The partnership has drilled the first well called Rangkong-1 in Surumana earlier this year and failed to make commercial discovery. Another well in Mandar is currently being drilling, BPMIGAS Spokesperson Sulistya Hastuti Wahyu said on June 12.
ExxonMobil Oil Indonesia Spokesperson Maman Budiman said in February 2009 that it would drill three wells at each block.(godang)
