ExxonMobil hits dry hole in first deepwater exploration

Upstream oil and gas regulatory body BPMIGAS said on Friday that US oil giant Exxon Mobil Corporation had drilled a dry well in its Rangkong-1 exploration field at Surumana block in Makasar Straits.
BPMIGAS? deputy operation and marketing Eddy Purwanto told Petromindo.Com on Friday that currently the well is in the process of being plugged and abandoned.
Meanwhile, BPMIGAS? spokesperson Sulistya Hastuti Wahyu said that ExxonMobil is now moving its rig to Mandar block also in deepwater areas in Makasar Straits.
EMOI used deepwater semi-submersible drilling rig West Aquarius owned by Seadrill to conduct the drilling.
ExxonMobil Oil Indonesia (EMOI) VP External Relations Maman Budiman was not immediately available for comments.
EMOI has 100 percent stake in both blocks. (godang)
