ExxonMobil Oil Indonesia (EMOI) expects to produce natural gas at its North Sumatra Offshore (NSO) block in the Malacca Straits at normal capacity of around 400 million cubic feet per day (MMCFD) on Saturday, senior manager for general services of state oil and gas firm company Pertamina, Sidick Nitikusumah, told Petromindo.Com on Saturday.

Gas production at the NSO block was suspended after a group of armed men believed to be supporters of Aceh Movement (GAM) on June 30 abducted nine crew members of a boat chartered by EMOI.The nine crews were released on Thursday.

Sidick said production at the block had reached 370 MMCF by Friday. The block resumed operation on Monday.

Normally, EMOI?s gas production from all of its fields totals 1.6 billion cubic feet per day (BCFD).

EMOI feeds the entire natural gas requirement of Arun natural gas liquefaction (NGL) which exports liquefied natural gas (LNG) to Japan and South Korea. Arun NGL also supplies gas to several fertilizer firms and papers mills in Indonesia. (alex)
