Fate of Cilacap power project plan remains unclear

Saturday, May 17 2003 - 04:26 AM WIB

State oil and gas firm Pertamina is awaiting a green light from its board of commissioners to a plot of its land in Cilacap, Central Java, for a 2x300-megawatt coal-fired power plant, Bisnis Indonesia daily reported Saturday.

?We can not materialize our plan of building the power plant because Pertamina?s board of commissioners has not allowed it to surrender its land,? president of state electricity firm PLN Eddie Widiono Suwondho was quoted as saying Friday.

PT Geo Dipa Energy, a joint venture between Pertamina and PLN, had signed a memorandum of understanding with a Chinese firm to build the coal power plant.

The project was expected to supply electricity to Pertamina?s oil refinery in Cilacap and to supply electricity to northern Java electricity grid. (*)
