Ferries to start using LNG next year

In a bid to expand its fuel to gas conversion program, the government aims to realize next year the use of LNG as fuel in ferries.

Acting Director General of Oil and Gas, IGN Wiratmadja was quoted as saying Thursday that the feasibility of the project is targeted to be completed this year, so that the program could be realized next year, initially for ferries serving short routes such as Merak-Bakauheuni and Gilimanuk-Ketapang.

He said that the use of LNG in ferries will be able to reduce petroleum fuel consumption by 25-30 percent. (*)
