Finder: Earthmoving progress on Wetar Island
Tuesday, November 5 2013 - 01:24 AM WIB
Key workstreams associated with the earthmoving component of the demonstration plant restart include mobilisation and establishment on site, re-establishing access to the Kali Kuning pit, construction of a spent ore pad to hold the ore from the demonstration pad heaps, removal of the spent ore and mining and restacking 140,000 tonnes of fresh ore onto the demonstration pads. If time and funding permits, the fleet will also start on establishing an access road to the Kati Kuning Valley.
The spent ore pad has now been constructed and lined with HDPE to prevent any environmental run-off. A new road has been cut into the Kali Kuning pit and the day fines removed which will used in future heap leach pad development as an environmental barrier under the 2mm HDPE lining. Removal of the 100,000 tonnes of ore from the demonstration pads has commenced and is expected to take approximately 2 weeks. (ends)
