Finders? unit eyes domestic market for copper cathode

PT BatuTua Tembaga Raya, a subsidiary of ASX-listed Finders Resources Limited, which operates two copper cathode plant on Wetar Island, Maluku Province, is looking at local buyers to expand market for its copper cathode output.

Herman Seran, External Affairs Manager of BTR told Petromindo.com Wednesday that the company has obtained opportunities from two local buyers, one of which is a company called PT Karya Sumiden Indonesia.

He said that the company has been exporting the copper cathode output to countries including Thailand, Taiwan, Pakistan and China. Since 2011 it has also been trying to sell in the domestic market.

Finders owns two copper cathode solvent extraction and electrowinning (SX-EW) plants on Wetar Island, the first of which has an annual installed production capacity of 3,000 tons. A second one, with has been recently commissioned, has a nameplate capacity of 25,000 tons per annum of LME Grade A copper cathode. Finders said on September 9, that the second plant was approaching nameplate capacity.
