Finland and Indonesia have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to enhance their energy cooperation, focusing on sustainable energy, clean technologies, and energy efficiency. The agreement, signed on October 6, 2025, aims to foster technical and economic collaboration between the two countries in the energy sector and to facilitate access for Finnish companies to the Indonesian market.

The MoU was signed in Helsinki during an Indonesian business delegation’s visit to Finland. Riku Huttunen, Director General of Finland's Ministry of Economic Affairs and Employment, represented Finland, while Ahmad Erani Yustika, Secretary General of Indonesia's Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources, signed on behalf of Indonesia.

The agreement builds on the previous MoU on energy cooperation between Finland and Indonesia, signed in May 2022, and continues the bilateral energy collaboration established in 2015. It sets the groundwork for technological and business cooperation in areas such as smart energy systems, renewable energy, energy efficiency, carbon capture, and electric vehicle infrastructure.

The delegation from Indonesia participated in an energy-focused working group, where both Indonesian and Finnish stakeholders discussed opportunities for clean energy solutions. This included presentations by Finnish companies and institutions such as Business Finland, who highlighted their clean energy innovations.

As part of the visit, the Indonesian delegation will explore Finland’s energy sector, including a visit to the Olkiluoto nuclear power plant in Eurajoki on October 7-8, 2025, and the Vaasa Energy Cluster, which focuses on circular economy principles. The delegation will also visit Wärtsilä’s technology center and the WestEnergy plant, which operates with an emphasis on carbon neutrality.

This MoU aligns with Indonesia's goal of achieving carbon neutrality by 2060, with Finland providing expertise to support this transition. The cooperation between the two countries will focus on areas such as hydrogen energy solutions, waste-to-energy technologies, and energy storage, among other innovations.
