Fire erupts at Pertamina’s Dumai refinery

A fire broke out at the Pertamina refinery in Dumai, Riau province, on Wednesday evening, prompting nearby residents to evacuate amid loud explosions, officials said.
Witnesses reported that the incident occurred around 9:00 p.m. local time.
Emergency response teams, including firefighters and the refinery’s rapid response units, were deployed to contain the fire and secure the surrounding area. The cause of the fire and the presence of any casualties have not been confirmed.

Agustiawan, Area Manager of Communication, Relations, and CSR at Dumai Refinery, said the firefighting teams are focusing on controlling the blaze to prevent it from spreading to other units. He apologized for the disruption to local residents and requested public cooperation and prayers as the situation is addressed.
The Dumai Refinery has a processing capacity of 170,000 barrels per day, making it the third-largest oil refinery in Indonesia. It processes crude oil to produce various fuels such as Solar (diesel fuel), Pertalite, Avtur (aviation fuel), and Green Coke.
