Fire incident at Pertamina?s well in North Sumatra

State owned oil and gas firm PT Pertamina (Persero) announced on Tuesday a fire incident occured on Monday evening at the KLD-11 well of Rantau field in Sei Buluh hamlet, P. Kampai village, Pangkalan Susu district, Langkat regency, North Sumatra.

The fire caused by blowout occured at 9.30 p.m. local time at the site where RIG H35 UY 6 PDSI was performing well service activity.

?At time a 3.5-inch was being replaced, a blowout occured, shooting 20 meters into the air, coupled with sparks which then resulted in fire,? Muhammad Baron, Public Relation Manager of PT Pertamina EP, an upstreram subsidiary of Pertamina, explained in a statement.

The emergeny team deployed by the firm soon thereafter managed to put out the fire at around 11.30 p.m, Baron said, adding one rig crew was injured in the leg after jumping out of the rig during the incident, while wo others suffered burning injuries. They are being treated at a hospital.

The firm is investigatin the cause of the incident and calculating the loss caused by it, he said.
