First 10,000 MW power program to be completed in 2013-2014

Power plants currently being built under the first 10,000 power project program will be completed by 2013, and their operations would be able to save the use of oil diesel by up to Rp 100 billion (US$=Rp 9000) a day or Rp 36 trillion a year, a senior official of state owned electricity firm PT Perusahaan Listrik Negara (PLN), has said.

There are a total of 37 power plants being or planned to be built under the 10,000 MW power plant program.

Yogo Pratomo, government's head for the acceleration of 10,000 MW power pojects, said in Jakarta on Sunday that eight of the 37 power plants, three in Java and five outside Java, would begin commercial operation by the end of this year.

The five power plants with combined capacity of 1,400 MW include the PLTU Indramayu I (330 MW), PLTU Suralaya (625 MW), PLTU Rembang I (315 MW), PLTU Tanjung Balai Karimun (2 x 7 MW), PLTU Bangka (30 MW), PLTU Amurang (25 MW), PLTU Kendari (2 x 10 MW), and PLTU Ende (2 x 7 MW).

It will be followed by the operation of 17 other power plants in 2011, five in Java and 12 outside Java. The 17 power plants with combined capacity of 4,300 MW will include PLTU Pacitan (2x315 MW), PLTU Rembang (1x350 MW), PLTU Lontar ( 3x315MW), PLTU Indramayu (3x330 mw), PLTU Pelabuhan Ratu (1x350 MW), PLTU Sumbagut (2x200 mw),PLTU Lampung (1x100 mw), PLTU Bangka Belitung (30 mw), PLTU Kalsel (2x65 mw), PLTU Sulsel (2x250 MW), PLTU Lombok (2 x 25 MW), PLTU Gorontalo (2x25 MW), PLTU Amurang (1 x 25 MW) , PLTU NTT ( 2x6.5 MW), PLTU Bima (2 x 10MW), PLTU Jaya Pura (2x10 MW), PLTU Jayapura (2x10 MW) and PLTU Maluku (2 x 7 MW).

Yogo did not unveil the schedules for the operation of the remaining 12 power plants.

He only said bad weather condition could also delay the operation of PLTU Kalrim (2x100 MW) and PLTU Riau (2x100 MW). The two power plants may begin their operation at the end of 2013 or 2014. (godang)
