Indonesia?s first coal gas fired power plant is currently under construction in Tayan, West Kalimantan using a German technology, Tribunnews reported on Friday.

The PLTGB Tayan coal gas fired power plant, which is currently being built on 5 hectares of land areas, will have nine generators and seven coal gasification plants. It will need about 100 tons of coal per day to produce gas for the power plant which would have capacity of 6.5 megawatt.

The plant?s mechanical supervisor Chepy said that the construction of the country?s first coal gas fired power plant had been 95 percent completed. The plant is expected to begin operation in July, this year.

?With the use of coal gas, the operating cost of the power plant will be cheaper than that of coal-fired power plant,? he said, adding that the coal gas fired power plant would also be environmentally more friendly. ?But the investment requirement is higher,? he added. (*)
