Five coal mining firms temporarily suspended

The Samarinda municipality government has temporarily suspended the operation of five coal mining companies for ignoring the regulation on environment protection, Tribunnews.com reported on Friday.

Nusyirwan, a senior executive of the mining department at the Samarinda municipality office, said that the operation of the five companies had seriously damaged the environment causing frequent flooding in the city.

He said that the five companies were given one month to fix their operations to be in accordance to the regulation. ?If there is no significant progress within a month, we will recommend the city mayor to revoke their licenses,? he said.

The five mining firms are Graha Benua Etam (GBE), Busur Abadi , CEM, KSU Putra Mahakam Mandiri and Anugerah Bara Insani. (*)
