Oil and gas upstream regulator body BPMIGAS has allocated the production of five gas fields to fulfill domestic needs in 2007 and 2008.

Production of the fields is small thus being not economic to export. The fields are Ujung Pangkah, Singa, Oyong, South East Sumatra and Jambi Merang.

“Their output is specially for the domestic needs, which have increased in the last several years,” BPMIGAS'  head Kardaya Warnika said in Jakarta on Wednesday.

Ujung Pangkah field costing around US$110 million produces 100 mmscfd of gas. The ouput will be utilized by the Gresik power plant in East Java owned by state owned electricity firm PT PLN .

Singa field, located in South Sumatra and opearated by PT Medco Energi International, is expected to start producing gas in July 2008 at a rate of around 50 mmscfd. The gas will  be transmitted to PLN’s power plants in West Java through South Sumatra-West Java (SSWJ) transmission networks.

Gas supply from Oyong field, around 60 mmscfd, will be sent to East Java, while South East Sumatra (SES) which operated by CNOOC will supply around 150 mmscfd to combined cycle power plant Cilegon.

Gas production from Jambi Merang Field, which is estimated at 144 mmscfd, has been allocated for power plants in West Java. (godang)
