Five killed after ASL tugboat capsizes in Batam shipyard

Five people were killed and one injured after a tugboat linked to Singapore listed ASL Marine Holdings Ltd capsized in Batam, Riau Archipelago, under adverse weather conditions, the company said.

The incident involved the tugboat TB ASL Mega, which overturned on March 6 while assisting the container ship MV Kyparissia at a jetty in the PT ASL Shipyard Indonesia facility in Batam.

ASL Marine said the vessel is owned by an associate company and capsized during bad weather conditions. The company confirmed that five people died and one survivor is receiving medical treatment.

Authorities are investigating the cause of the accident.
