Five men arrested for allegedly involved in illegal mining

The South Kalimantan Police arrested on Tuesday five men for allegedly involved in illegal coal mining activities in the province's Kotabaru regency, Kompas reported on Wednesday.

The head of the police office in Kotabaru, Sahimin Zainuddin said on Tuesday that the police also seized 10 units of heavy mining equipment being used in the illegal mining activities.

Two of the five men -- Sya, a Jakarta resident and ZA, a resident of Kotabaru - were arrested by the police office in Kotabaru, while the other three were seized by the provincial police office.

According to Sahimin, Sya was arrested for not having a mining license, while ZA was arrested for conducting mining activities in an area belonging to mining company PT Arutmin.

The spokesman for the provincial police office Puguh Rahardjo said that the other three men, MY, Sm and Rah were arrested for allegedly conducting coal mining activities in the Tanah Rata village, Kotabaru regency.

Meanwhile, the police office in the province's Barito regency reported that it had arrested AM, alias AJ, the director of CV KK also for allegedly involved in illegal mining activities.

The man was accused of conducting mining area owned by coal mining company PT Supbrabari Mapindo in Teweh Tengah district. (*)
